I've lived in a lot of different "communities".
I have worked at Camp for 3 Summers and 1 Fall, which includes cabins of 8-10 boys ranging from 8 - 18, or other staff members, including members that are far older than I am, and some that are my age. I lived in a tree house with 7 other people of different culture, ethnicity, languages etc.
Not to mention the small room of 6 disgusting guys who lived together for 3 months.
I feel like I've been a part of a lot of different living situations throughout my life, especially in the last 2.5 years. I've never encountered any REAL problem.
Until now.
My roommate and I don't NOT get along, but I would never consider us friends, and acquaintance is a stretch. We kind of just co-exist.
He lives 5 min down the road, so it's not un-common for him to just get up and leave and not come back until the next day. In fact, I'm usually surprised when he's around at all. The question HAS been raised "why does he live here" And I feel like it's something that will never be fully answered to anyone's satisfaction. He did not participate in ANY orientation week activities, doesn't go to our floor meetings, and has made no effort to get to know anyone on our floor or in his program, literally.
I get asked all the time "what he's like, what he does, what does he act like".
He's like a mystery.
Here's a typical day.
He gets up, goes to class... I assume.
Comes back, puts headphones in
Eats, alone. Even when invited to come with us.
Puts movie on, with headphones.
Goes to bed.
Repeat
So...here's the experiment.
I'm not going to talk to him, until he talks to me.
I'm going to see how long it takes before a conversation takes place.
Or, if it just so happens that he DOES talk to me, I'm going to record what is said, and see how it goes. I'm not going to ignore him, I'm not going to cut conversation short. I'm just going to see if he will ever say anything to me.
I'm very excited.
Like the Great Experiment BEGIN.
Cheers.
