The Swiss Family Robinsons

I've made it to Boracay Island, a small island somewhere in the Philippines.
It's pretty much half tourist, half extreme poverty with children and chickens running wild. We live in a place appropriately named "the tree house". Which as you may have guessed is situated like a gangsta tree house, with A/C, and that's all that we need. It also has 2 cold showers. With the temp being what it is, it's fine by me.

Our 2 day travel show went super smooth all the way. When we stopped over in Manila we got to stay at this resort like place for next to nothing which had a pool, which i was way too excited about. I thought it couldn't get any better until I arrived in Boracay. It's amazing, i feel horribly for every other team. The beach life is super relaxed and as our pastor put it "filippinos....always an hour late". So yah, it's laid back.

Our ministry here is pretty much kids, bible studies and church services along with some construction. We do it all.
Except we rarely volunteer. This is how they operate.
They invite you to a bible study or church service. And once you arrive they go
"oh good, now we can begin...go ahead"
and now you are running the bible study/church service/kids ministry.
Grrrreat. You'd think after working at camp for 2 summers I'd have games and stories coming out of every which way but you blank pretty quickly when you have 40 kids staring at you. Half of them don't speak english, and the other half are straight up climbing onto the roofs of houses and poles.

We live 4 min walk from the beach, but still in the poor part of town. It's kind of cool going to our place, we pass chickens, kids, roosters, and little huts. Every place seems to have a T.V.
At any given moment a filippino will either be texting, or watching t.v.
In the meantime...i'm ilving the island life.
This whole missionary deal has it's benefits, that's for sure.
Cheers.
-jon.
