Just Studying

It's my 2nd week in University, technically entering my 3rd week of classes, officially as of tomorrow morning. I have a quiz on confidentiality.
Basically learning the acts the government has enabled so that patients can sue the crap out of me, my facility can fire me, and how health care can be made more difficult.
However, having one's privacy violated would suck. So I understand.

The transition from Gr. 8 to Gr. 9 is talked about over and over throughout public School. They make the transition as smooth as possible with starting "rotary", and giving you lockers and so on and so forth. I remember going to BDSS and getting a tour, learning about what'll be expected of me, how much time between class and having a kid pick me up and try to shove Scott Cherrie and I in a locker.
I remember thinking High School is the greatest thing.
The transition from High School to University is brutal. I've made it, I've figured it out, no thanks to the Secondary School system.
It's completely different from High School. The only thing that makes it easier is the Profs. Assuming they are understanding.
Yes, it's quite different. In good and bad ways.

Good way: You don't have to go to class, the profs make this clear.

Freedom, is given a brand new definition.

There's tons of stuff to do. I could join the Persian club if I really wanted to. Or the Chinese Christian Club, or the Chinese Christian Debate club, or just the Chinese Debate Club. It's all there.

You meet hundreds of people, and if you don't want to see someone ever again, it's easy.

Bad: If you want to see someone again, it can be difficult, unless you make an effort......what's up facebook.

You need to study just because you SHOULD be studying.
This is a completely foreign concept to me. I barely studied in High School, now I'm expected to do it for no reason other than just to ....study. I thought doing a book report for YWAM was torture, and camp seemed busy, and now I'm balancing 6 University classes that all express the need to "stay on top of the workload".

You don't have to go to class, and there's so much to do, work can be pushed to the wayside.

I'm expected to have my notes in order BEFORE class, know what were talking about, BEFORE I'm taught.
When I look back, the only thing that replicates a somewhat University like situation, is Mr. Franz's Biology Class. With the slide show, and the note taking and the slide show and the note taking and so on. It reminds me so much of my Anatomy Class it hurts.
After a month here, I'll be gearing up for Midterms. Time's already flying.
I'm going to go study.
cheers.
